Herbs perennial. Roots terete. Flowering stems erect or ascending, 15–55 cm tall, together with petioles pubescent and pilose. Radical leaves 6–15 cm including petiole; stipules brown, membranous, abaxially pilose; leaf blade pinnate, rarely interrupted pinnate, with 2–4 pairs of leaflets; leaflets usually opposite, at intervals of 1–2 cm, sessile or subsessile, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, 1–4 × 0.5–2 cm, abaxially pubescent, villous on veins, adaxially appressed pilose, base cuneate or broadly so, margin coarsely acutely or obtusely incised serrate, apex obtuse or acute; cauline leaves: stipules green, large, herbaceous, abaxially densely pubescent or villous, margin 2- or 3-incised parted, rarely entire; leaf blade 3-foliolate or pinnate with 2 pairs of leaflets; leaflets resembling those of radical leaves. Inflorescence laxly cymose. Flowers ca. 2 cm in diam.; pedicel 1–2 cm, pubescent, proximally with ovate bract. Sepals triangular-ovate, apex acute; epicalyx segments elliptic, nearly equaling sepals, abaxially pubescent and pilose. Petals yellow, obovate or obcordate, ca. 2 × as long as sepals, apex emarginate. Style terminal, base thickened; stigma minute, not dilated. Achenes yellow-brown, ovoid, rugose. Fl. and fr. Jun–Sep.
