Rhamnus cathartica (Common Buckthorn) is a species of shrub in the family Rhamnaceae. They are native to Poland, Spain, Greece, Sweden, Belarus, Hungary, Germany, Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Algeria, Iran, Latvia, Yugoslavia, Austria, Eastern North America, Estonia, Ireland, The Netherlands, Bulgaria, Turkey, Norway, France, Morocco, Belgium, Moldova, Albania, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Romania, Denmark, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, and Ukraine. They have drupes. Flowers are visited by Chrysotoxum cautum, Andrena fucata, early mining bee, and Mitoura gryneus.
