Sonchus asper (Spiny Sowthistle) is a species of annual herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Africa, Europe, and Asia. They have simple, broad leaves and achene. Flowers are visited by Helophilus trivittatus, Sericomyia superbiens, Orange Sulphur, and Xylocopa ciliata. Individuals can grow to 0.45 m.
