Die boom kom nooit in sandgrond voor nie. Die blare is dun, donkergroen aan die bokant en baie ligter aan die onderkant.

Searsia pentheri, the common crowberry (English), gewone kraaibessie (Afrikaans), iNhlokoshiyane (Zulu), or mutasiri (Venda), is a species of tree in the genus Searsia. Frost hardy tree reaching a height of up to 6 metres. The tree is mainly evergreen but loses its leaves in severe winters. It has olive-green foliage with dark brown bark and can be grown in either full sun or semi shade. Small flowers are produced and are followed by masses of shiny, light brown, small edible fruits, which provide a feast for birds. Only female trees produce these fruits though. The tree occurs over large portions of South Africa. It has been planted in Spain.[2]

Es un árbol resistente a las heladas que alcanza una altura de 6 metros. El árbol es principalmente siempreverde pero pierde sus hojas en los severos inviernos. Tienen follaje verde-oliva con la corteza café y puede crecer a pleno sol o en semi-sombra. Se producen pequeñas flores a las que le siguen cantidades de pequeños frutos comestibles brillosos café claro, los cuales proveen un banquete para las aves. Sin embargo, solo los árboles hembra producen esos frutos. El árbol se distribuye en grandes porciones de Sudáfrica. Se ha plantado en España.[1]
Rhus pentheri fue descrita por Alexander Zahlbruckner y publicado en Ann. K. K. Naturhist. Hofmus. 15: 52 1900.[2]
Rhus: nombre genérico que deriva de la palabra griega para "rojo", una alusión a los llamativos colores de otoño de algunas especies.
