Cardoon

Cynara cardunculus L.

Cynara cardunculus (Cardoon) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to France, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Tunisia, Libya, Yugoslavia, mediterranean basin, Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. They have simple, broad leaves and achenes. Flowers are visited by Bombus terrestris canariensis, Buff-tailed bumblebee, Terellia fuscicornis, and Honey bee. Individuals can grow to 0.8 m.
