Cynara cardunculus (Cardoon) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to France, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Tunisia, Libya, Yugoslavia, mediterranean basin, Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. They have simple, broad leaves and achenes. Flowers are visited by Buff-tailed bumblebee, Stictoleptura cordigera, 7-spot ladybird, and Oxythyrea funesta. Individuals can grow to 0.8 m.
