體延長，側扁。眼大且突起，吻短，吻長小於眼徑。口小，上頜末端未達眼前緣。頭小，標準體長為頭長的5倍以上。鰓蓋背緣未達身體中線。體披圓鱗，側線鱗數約50-52枚。第一鰓弓鰓耙數25枝。背鰭起點約在體中部，背鰭具9-11根軟條，腹鰭具11-12根軟條，臀鰭8-10根軟條。具脂鰭，脂鰭起點在臀鰭末端前方。體色為深褐色至黑色。
棲地
