體延長,側扁。眼大且突起,吻短,吻長小於眼徑。口小,上頜末端未達眼前緣。頭小,標準體長為頭長的5倍以上。鰓蓋背緣未達身體中線。體披圓鱗,側線鱗數約50-52枚。第一鰓弓鰓耙數25枝。背鰭起點約在體中部,背鰭具9-11根軟條,腹鰭具11-12根軟條,臀鰭8-10根軟條。具脂鰭,脂鰭起點在臀鰭末端前方。體色為深褐色至黑色。
