The fluffy-backed tit-babbler (Macronus ptilosus) (Thai: นกกินแมลงหลังฟู)^[2] is a species of bird in the family Timaliidae. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical swampland. It is threatened by habitat loss.

There are two subspecies recognized by the International Ornithological Congress:^[3]

• M. p. ptilosus Jardine & Selby, 1835 - Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Batu Islands
• M. p. trichorrhos (Temminck, 1836) - Bangka Belitung Islands and Borneo

El timalí piloso (Macronus ptilosus)^[2]​ es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Timaliidae propia del sudeste asiático.

Descripción

El timalí piloso mide entre 16–17 cm de largo. Su plumaje es principalmente de color castaño, con el píleo rojizo y la garganta negra. Presenta el lorum desnudo y azul, y a los lados del cuello tiene sendas manchas blancas que tapa y destapa a voluntad. Se caracteriza por las plumas largas y pilosas que tiene en la parte baja de la espalda y el obispillo.

Distribución y hábitat

Se encuentra en la península malaya, y las islas de Sumatra, Borneo, Bangka y Belitung. Su hábitat natural son los bosques húmedos tropicales de tierras bajas y los pantanos.

De stekelrugtimalia (Macronus ptilosus synoniem: Macronous ptilosus) is een vogelsoort uit de familie van de timalia's. De vogel komt voor op Borneo, Sumatra en het schiereiland Malakka.

Kenmerken

De stekelrugtimalia is een timalia van gemiddeld 15 cm. De vogel is overwegend chocoladebruin gekleurd, met een zwarte keel. De kruin is roodbruin en opvallend aan deze vogel zijn de pluizige sierveren (hoewel vaak in het bos nauwelijks zichtbaar) en de blauwe washuid rond het oog tot aan de snavelbasis.^[2]

Verspreiding en leefgebied

De soort komt voor op Borneo, Sumatra en het schiereiland Malakka. De stekelrugtimalia leeft in paren in de ondergroei van primair en secundair bos. Oorspronkelijk waren deze vogels aangepast aan natuurlijke verstoringen in regenwoud zoals aardverschuivingen en ontwortelde grote bomen. Ontbossing in de vorm van selectieve houtkap werkte in het voordeel van deze timalia. Op Borneo is dit een algemene standvogel in laaglandbos en mangrove.^[2]

De soort telt 3 ondersoorten:

• M. p. trichorrhos (Temminck,1836): Sumatra en de Batoe-eilanden
• M. p. ptilosus Jardine & Selby,1835: Malakka.
• M. p. reclusus Hartert,1915: Borneo, Banka-Billiton.

Status

De stekelrugtimalia heeft een groot verspreidingsgebied en daardoor alleen al is de kans op de status kwetsbaar (voor uitsterven) gering. De grootte van de populatie is niet gekwantificeerd. Veel laaglandbos wordt niet alleen selectief gekapt, maar ook omgezet in land voor agrarisch gebied. Om deze reden staat deze timalia als gevoelig op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN.^[1]

Pode ser encontrada nos seguintes países: Brunei, Indonésia, Malásia, Singapura e Tailândia.^[1]

• M. p. sordidus – förekommer på Bangka- och Belitungöarna
• M. p. reclusus – förekommer på Borneo

Underarten inkluderas ofta i reclusus,^[4] som i sin tur ofta inkluderas i trichorrhos^[5].

Status

IUCN kategoriserar arten som nära hotad.^[1]
