Haptorid ciliate, 60-100 micrometres long. Ovoid, or like an inverted bell, with projecting, cone-shaped snout in the anterior. Closely resembling Didinium sp., but with a single anterior ciliary band, or girdle. A second band emerges in the posterior during cell division. Flexible and contractile, especially at the snout. Macronucleus horseshoe or sausage-shaped; contractile vacuole posterior. Fresh water, among plants and plankton, rarely in bottom sediments.
