Етимологія
Українське «тис» походить від праслов. *tisъ. Етимологія праслов'янського слова неясна, можливо, воно споріднене з лат. taxus. Слов'янська і латинська назви тиса могли бути запозиченими з якоїсь неіндоєвропейської мови: припускали зв'язок з прауралоалтайським *taqsa/tyqsa («кедр», «модрина», «ялівець»)[1].
