Vigna membranacea is an annual herb that reaches up to 0.2-1.5 m climbing or trailing, and ridged. The leaves compound with ovate-triangular leaflets with acuminate apex. Flowers are papilionate with pink or blue standard, blue or mauve wings, and pale blue keel. The fruit is an erect, linear-cylindrical pod with 10-14 dark red seeds with black mottling.
