Dicranella liliputana Paris 1900

Plants small, up to 5 mm high, yellowish, gregarious or in loose tufts. Stems erect, simple; central strand absent. Leaves flexuose when dry, erect-spreading when moist, lower ones smaller, up to 0.7 mm long; upper ones larger, up to 1.5 mm long, lanceolate, gradually narrowed from an oblong, nonsheathing base to a long, semi-canaliculate acumen; margins plane below, slightly incurved and finely serrulate near the apex; costa slender, shortly excurrent, sometimes slightly roughened at back; upper cells linear-rectangular, lower cells long-rectangular. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves larger and longer than the upper stem leaves, distinctly sheathing at base. Setae straight, yellowish; capsules oblong-ovoid, inclined and curved, strumose at base; opercula long-rostrate, slightly curved; annuli absent; peristome teeth divided to the middle, vertically striate and reddish below, pale and papillose above. Spores not seen.

Distribution: endemic to China.

Habitat: on wet soil.
