Physical description

provided by INOTAXA archive
In the British Museum collection there are two broken pinned examples of an insect clearly belonging to this genus, the unique type of which, B. squalidus, Kirsch, from Colombia, has been kindly communicated by Dr. Heller. Erepsimus, Schönh., type E. setiferus, Boh., from Brazil, superficially resembles Bothynodontes, differing from the latter in having ocular lobes to the prothorax and the anterior femora simply clavate. Following Dr. Sharp's system of classification (anteà, pp. 101, 102), Bothynodontes would perhaps be best placed near Epitosus and Eumestorus; the free tarsal claws, &c., exclude it from the Sciaphilina. The Mexican habitat requires confirmation.
