Tolyposporium eriocauli Clinton, Rhodora 3 : 82. 1901
Sori in ovaries, ovoid, somewhat two-lobed, 1-2 mm. in length, very inconspicuous in the infected heads, covered by a grayish membrane which on rupture discloses the granular spore-mass ; spore-balls black, perfectly opaque, irregularly oblong to subspherical, frequently somewhat angled, firm, composed of many spores, chiefly 65-200 (" in length ; spores light-colored, subspherical to spherical, adhering together by dark folds of their outer membrane which on rupture of balls show as reticulations or spine-like processes or even become entirely detached, 8-11 yin diameter exclusive of processes.
