Pileus fleshy, fragile, convex, broadly umbonate, solitary or gregarious, 5-10 cm. broad; surface glabrous, lacunose, sub viscid, tawny, often with a slightly darker zone near the margin when moist, margin even, wavy or slightly lobed; context firm, watery, white, the taste and odor farinaceous; lamellae narrow, crowded, adnate, whitish, becoming darker with age and on drying; spores ellipsoid, 10-12 X 6-8 n stipe equal or slightly bulbous, flexuous, fragile, stuffed, pale-tawny, white within, striate at the apex, 4-12 cm. long, 4-8 mm. thick.
Type locality: Falmouth, Massachusetts. Habitat: In open grassy places or on corniest heaps. Distribution: Massachusetts and New York.

Agrocybe sororia

Agrocybe sororia is a species of Basidiomycota mushroom in the genus Agrocybe. The cap is convex to plane, tawny fading to pale yellow-buff; the pileus sometimes is cracked, or wrinkled. The gills have an adnate attachment to the stipe. The spore print is cinnamon-brown. The stem is cylindrical, equal, concolor with the cap and lacks a ring; usually with white cords in the stem base. It is found in wood mulch. Odour and taste mealy (not bitter). This mushroom distributes in eastern North America.[1]

Similar species

A. firma is similar but it has dark-brown pileus and lacks of mealy odour. A. putaminum has mealy odour and a bitter taste. Also, has pileocystidia.
