Pterocarpus officinalis (Dragonsblood Tree) is a species of shrub in the family legumes. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Maranhao, Amapá, Puerto Rico, Amazônia, Roraima, Middle America, Pará, Atlantic And Gulf Coastal Plain (Agcp), Acre (Brazil), and Caribbean Islands. They have compound, broad leaves and yellow flowers. Individuals can grow to 75 feet.
