This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: presence of small dots on the side of the body, arranged in two or three distinct longitudinal lines; short pectoral fin, not reaching the vertical that passes through the origin of the dorsal fin; absence of adipose fin and bars; scaled isthmus; absence of blotches on dorsum; presence of longitudinal gold stripe; and mouth small, terminal. Colouration: yellow to brownish with dorsum darker and whitish belly, with gold tint on opercle, eye and parts of the head (123789).
