Nelumbo lutea (American Lotus) is a species of perennial herb in the family Nelumbonaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to The Contiguous United States, Canada, North America, and Eastern North America. They have simple, broad leaves and yellow flowers. Flowers are visited by Common Eastern Bumblebee, Agapostemon splendens, Notiphila unicolor, and Chauliognathus marginatus. Individuals can grow to 3 feet.
