Place: Bovec basin, W of station A of Mt. Kanin cable car, East Julian Alps, Posoje, Slovenia EC Comments: Growing in a large group. Cap dimensions up to 7 cm (3 inch) long, 3,5 cm (1.4 inch) wide and 3 cm (1.2 inch) thick. Smell indistinctive, flesh corky, moist, relatively soft and easy to cut. Upper surface of vivid colors: golden-brown (oac755 -oac713), ocher brown (oac803), red (oac670). Pore surface brown (oac708) with silvery-gray flesh. SP faint, yellowish (?). All vivid colors of the cups' upper surface faded to brown in 12 hours after cut of. Trama instantly goes black in 5% KOH. Spores smooth, dimensions: 5.8 (SD = 0.5) x 3.8 (SD = 0.3) micr., Q = 1.55 (SD = 0.12), n = 30. Large fusoid hymenial setae scattered. Substratum: vertical surface of dead, still standing trunk of Juglans regia partly still in bark.Place: Lower Trenta valley, between villages Soa and Trenta, near abandoned homestead 'Koc', Trenta 3, East Julian Alps, Posoje, Slovenia ECComments: Fungus growing on either side of partly peeling off bark of the tree, as well as on already decorticated surface of the trunk (less intensive); fungus was spreading on almost 2 m (7 feet) of the trunk height and in some places all around it. Trunk diameter about 50-60 cm; trama corky; smell indistinctive on rooting wood or earth; 5% KOH reaction on pore and sterile surfaces black; SP very faint, possibly whitish ?Spores smooth. Dimensions: 5.5 (SD = 0.2) x 3.5 (SD = 0.2) , Q = 1.56 (SD = 0.08), n = 30. Olympus CH20, NEA 100x/1.25, magnification 1.000 x, oil. Bavki Grintavec, 2.347 m (7.698 feet), above village Soa, East Julian Alps, Posoje, Slovenia EC Comments: Growing solitary and in groups, pileus width up to 6 cm (2.3 inch), flesh hard and corky. Young fruitbodies orange brown, old one almost black and cracked above. SP very faint, possibly light ocher? It was not easy to get spores. While the average dimensions fit to data from Ref.2, they seem to be of the same type but of two distinctive sizes (?). Pileus diameter up to 15 cm x 10 cm (6 inch x 4 inch) and 3 cm (1.2 inch) thick, hard, difficult to cut through, corky. Cap upper side dark tobacco color (oac638), almost totally covered by mosses. Context somewhat lighter than cap (oac644). Pore layer concolorous with context, pore surface ocher-brown (oac777). SP whitish-creme. Spores smooth, small, abundant. Typical Coltricia perennis is usually more distinctly zonate with several thin delicately colored rings. However, spore and basidia dimensions and lack of abundant setae clearly point to Coltricia perennis. Growing solitary. Pileus diameter 9 cm, stipe 2.5 cm long and 12 mm in diameter.Spores smooth, some with oil drops. Dimensions: 5,6 [6,2 ; 6,5] 7,1 x 3,3 [4 ; 4,3] 4,9 microns; Q = 1,3 [1,5 ; 1,6] 1,8; N = 30; C = 95%; Me = 6,3 x 4,1 microns; Qe = 1,5. Basidia clavate. Dimensions; 13.2 [16.9 ; 19.5] 23.2 x 4.6 [5.2 ; 5.7] 6.4 microns; Q = 2.3 [3.1 ; 3.6] 4.4; N = 15; C = 95%; Me = 18.2 x 5.5 microns; Qe = 3.3.
