Mastigostyla is a genus of flowering plants in the family Iridaceae, first described as a genus in 1928. The entire group is endemic to South America.[1] The genus name is derived from the Greek words mastigos, meaning "whip", and stylos, meaning "style".[2][3][4]

Mastigostyla es un género de plantas herbáceas, perennes y bulbosas perteneciente a la familia de las iridáceas. Es originario de Perú hasta el norte de Argentina.[1]​ Comprende 20 especies descritas y de estas, solo 17 aceptadas.[2]​

Taxonomía

El género fue descrito por Ivan Murray Johnston y publicado en Contributions from the Gray Herbarium of Harvard University 81: 85. 1928.[3]​

Etimología

Mastigostyla: nombre genérico que deriva de las palabras griegas: mastigos, que significa "el látigo", y stylos, que significa "estilo", refiriéndose a los estilos con forma de látigo.[4]​[5]​
