Original diagnosis by Benham (1916: 138): ''The peristomium is produced laterally and ventrally to form a large, widely extending, collar-like lip (Cheilos = lip); the base of the notopodium is raised into a lamelliform expansion exceeding in height the rest of the parapodium throughout the greater part of the body.''
