Acaulescent ; flowering branches scapiform, naked or with minute bracts, villous with long (in age brown) hairs, 5-7 dm. high; petioles 1-2 dm. long, also villous; blades reniform or rounded-cordate, 5-8 cm. wide, round-lobed and with ovate cuspidate teeth ; inflorescence 0.5-1 dm. long, dense; hypanthium greenish, deeply campanulate, oblique, hirsute and glandular, together with the oblong sepals 7-8 mm. or in fruit over 1 cm. long ; petals minute or usually lacking.
Type locality : On the declivities of low hills and on the steep banks of streams on the west
side of the Rocky Mountains.
Distribution : Low ground and river banks, British Columbia to Oregon and Idaho.

Heuchera suksdorfii Rydb. sp. nov
Acaulescent, related to H. ovalifolia and H. glabella ; flowering branches 2-3 dm. high, glandularpubescent with short hairs, scapiform, with usually 1 or 2 scales; leaf-blades also pubescent, 5 cm. long or less ; blades thick, dark-green, about 2 cm. wide, finely glandularpubescent, deeply 5-7-lobed ; teeth broadly ovate, bristlepointed ; inflorescence short, 2-4 cm. long, dense ; hypanthium yellowish, glandular-puberulent, together wdth the oblong sepals about 8 mm. long ; petals minute, oblanceolate or none.
Type collected in crevices of rocks, Falcon Valley, June 28, 1882, by W. N. Suksdorf (Columbia University Herbarium).
Distribution : In the Cascade Mountains of Washington and Oregon.
