They are native to Bahia, Alagoas, Caatinga, Mato Grosso, U.S. Virgin Islands, RondôNia, SãO Paulo, Piauí, The Contiguous United States, Rio Grande Do Norte, Mato Grosso Do Sul, ParaíBa, Pantanal, Espirito Santo, Pernambuco, Roraima, Acre (Brazil), Sergipe, Mata Atlântica, Pará, Amazônia, Puerto Rico, Ceará, Tocantins, Maranhao, and Cerrado. They have simple, broad leaves and loculicidal capsule fruit.
