A low tufted perennial. Stems simple, up to 8 cm. tall, slender, glabrous; sheaths strongly striate, ciliate, often sparingly pubescent at the apex, the uppermost one bladeless ; blades flat, up to 7 cm. long, 1.5-3 mm. wide, linear, glabrous; raceme single, exserted, straight, 7-12 mm. long, the rachis about 0.7 mm. wide; spikelets singly disposed, glabrous, about 1.3 mm. long and 1 mm. wide, broadly oval, obtuse, the first scale wanting, the second 5-nerved, or sometimes 4-nerved by the suppression of the midnerve, the third 3-nerved, the fruiting scale white to yellowish, about as long as the other scales, broadly oval.
Type locality: Near Marianao, Province of Havana, Cuba. Distribution : Province of Havana.
