Clidemia hirta (Soapbush) is a species of shrub in the family melastomes. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Bahia, Puerto Rico, Pará, Paraná, Sergipe, ParaíBa, Maranhao, Amazônia, Mata Atlântica, The Contiguous United States, Santa Catarina, Acre (Brazil), GoiáS, Cerrado, Rio De Janeiro, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Mato Grosso, SãO Paulo, Piauí, Ceará, Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal, Espirito Santo, Rio Grande Do Sul, Roraima, Tocantins, Caatinga, U.S. Virgin Islands, RondôNia, Alagoas, Amapá, and Pernambuco. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Halictonomia clidemiae. Individuals can grow to 4.6 m.
