They are native to Bahia, AmazôNia, ParaíBa, Piauí, Pernambuco, SãO Paulo, Espirito Santo, Atlantic And Gulf Coastal Plain (Agcp), Santa Catarina, Ceará, Mata Atlântica, Brazil, Rio De Janeiro, Rio Grande Do Norte, Alagoas, Puerto Rico, Maranhao, The Contiguous United States, Paraná, Pará, U.S. Virgin Islands, Eastern North America, Middle America, Sergipe, US Minor Outlying Islands, Rio Grande Do Sul, Hawaii, and Pacific Basin excluding Hawaii. They have simple, broad leaves, red flowers, and achene. Flowers are visited by Monk Skipper and Carpenter Bees. Individuals can grow to 0.77 m.
