A member of the group of species with complete or nearly complete lateral line, 8 1/2 branched dorsal rays, 9+8 branched caudal rays and no sexual dimorphism. It can be distinguished by its lateral line reaching only to anal fin, inflated cheeks in specimens larger than 4.5 cm SL and axillary pelvic lobe rudimentary or absent. Caudal fin emarginate.

Schistura breviceps is a species of ray-finned fish in the stone loach genus Schistura. It has only been recorded in the drainage system of the Mae Nam Kok, a tributary of the Mekong in northern Thailand and Myanmar. It has been seen in streams with a moderate flow over gravel or stone stream beds.[1]
