Silver Banksia (Banksia marginata) cultivated in a private garden in Latham, ACT, Australia. Photographed on 8 August 1979.This is a particularly good form for horticultural use.Digitised from a slide. The original slide, which is of higher quality, is held.
Upper Goobragandra River, south of Tumut, New South Wales. In southeastern Australia this is the Banksia that extends to highest altitudes in mountain areas such as the Snowy Mountains of southeastern NSW. I suspect it is the only Banksia in our large Kosciuszko National Park, where it occurs at up to about 1500 m / 5000 ft above sea-level. There it makes a small tree sometimes 6-8 m tall, whereas in coastal NSW it is usually a spreading shrub under 3 m high.
