Perennial, stems prostrate to ascending, to 1.2 m long. Leaves: lamina 7-10 × 3.5-11 cm, broadly ovate to circular, 5-nerved from the base, densely stellate-pubescent above, tomentose beneath; base rounded or broadly cuneate; margin crenate. Petiole up to 5 cm, with 3-5 pairs of discoid glands just below the lamina. Inflorescences of leaf-opposed cymes, 1-2 together on stout peduncles. Flowers crowded together. Sepals 10-12 mm long, linear, with crowded scales outside and a blackish 2-dentate horn just below the apex. Petals yellow. Fruit c. 2 cm in diameter, globose, covered with hard conical glabrous tubercles, sometimes bearing spines.
