Cicadetta calliope calliope occurs in the United States from the mid-Atlantic states to the Rocky Mountains. It is known from Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi,Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. These cicadas are found in grasses and weeds and have been associated with grasses and weeds in meadow environments and Stipa spartea Trinius - Andropogon scoparius (Michaux) Nash habitats.
