Dense, multi-stemmed shrub or small tree. Leaves opposite or sub-opposite, elliptic, usually 2-5 cm long, dull green, covered with soft silvery hairs when young above, below still hairy when mature; margin entire, often rolled under. Flowers in few-flowered axillary heads, strongly unpleasantly scented, creamy-white to yellow. Fruits 4-5-winged, c. 10mm long, with a distinct peg at the apex (image 3), greenish-yellow, drying to light brown.
