Orbiniidae with a conical prostomium, one achaetous buccal segment (peristomium), thoracic neurochaetae all crenulate capillaries as are thoracic notochaetae, branchiae from chaetiger 8 or later, 1-3 thoracic neuropodial postchaetal processes, 0-2 thoracic subpodal papillae, 0-4 abdominal subpodal papillae, stomach papillae rare, interramal cirri present or absent, forked chaetae present or absent, 0-2 anal cirri (Mackie, 1987: 2). Eibye-Jacobsen (2002: 79) emended the genus to allow the presence of up to six podal paillae and seven subpodal papillae.
