Description

Robust erect perennial herb with an annual stem growing from a tuberous taproot. Stem unbranched covered in short rusty velvety hairs, milky latex present. Leaves opposite, elliptic-ovate, up to c. 6 × 2 cm, pointed at the apex, with short rusty velvety hairs on both surfaces; petiole very short. Inflorescences several, in upper leaf axils, umbelliform, up to 8-flowered. Flowers c. 2.5 cm in diameter; corolla lobes spreading or somewhat reflexed, rusty-brown outside, dull-orange inside. Corona large and erect greenish-yellow, marked with purple and a narrow, raised, purple rim.
