Description

Tufted glabrous perennial to 80 cm with a short rhizome; culm with leaf sheaths at the base. Inflorescence a white rounded head, subtended by 1-3 leaf-like bracts; longest 3-5 (-12) cm. Squamellae 3-4 mm, obovate, white, flattened, with the flower in a central hollow (pocket). Style 2-fid. Nutlet 2-2.5 mm, dark, soft and falling enclosed within the protective squamella.
