Brief Summary
provided by EOL authors
The Dark Kite Swallowtail, Eurytides philolaus, is one of the three species found in North America from the swallowtail tribe Leptocircini (Leptocircini includes 144 species worldwide, mostly tropical). Eurytides philolaus generally ranges from Mexico south to Honduras, though it is found as a stray in southern Texas. Adult Dark Kite Swallowtails have much darker wing coloration than the closely related North American native Eurytides marcellus (Zebra Swallowtail). Like E. marcellus, adults have long tails and sip mud. (Scott, 1986).
