Thelocactus hexaedrophorus ist eine Pflanzenart aus der Gattung Thelocactus in der Familie der Kakteengewächse (Cactaceae). Das Artepitheton kommt aus dem griechischen und bedeutet ‚Würfelträger‘.
Thelocactus hexaedrophorus wächst einzeln, kugelförmig, gedrückt und hat einen 3 bis 7,5 Zentimeter hohen Körper mit einem Durchmesser von 8 bis 15 Zentimetern und einer bläulich, oliv-grünen oder auch grau-grünen Farbe. Die 8 bis 13 Rippen sind vollkommen in Warzen aufgelöst. Die Warzen sind mehr oder weniger sechsseitig 8 bis 20 Millimeter lang und 13 bis 26 Millimeter groß. Die Areolen sind 4 bis 13 Millimeter lang und 2 bis 3,5 Zentimeter voneinander entfernt. Die 4 bis 8 Randdornen sind 5 bis 60 Millimeter lang, reinweiß, ockerfarben, rötlich bis braun, gerade oder gebogen, nadelförmlich bis pfriemlich. Der Mitteldorn ist 2 bis 3 Zentimeter lang, kräftiger und steht aufrecht.
Die Blüten sind groß, 5 bis 10 Zentimeter lang und breit. Die Blütenfarbe variiert zwischen weiß bis leicht rosa. Die Früchte sind grün bis magentafarben und 7 bis 11 Millimeter groß und springen trocken auf.
Thelocactus hexaedrophorus wächst auf sanften Hängen und Kalkstein in den mexikanischen Bundesstaaten San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Tamaulipas und Nuevo León.
Die Erstbeschreibung als Echinocactus hexaedrophorus erfolgte 1839 durch Charles Lemaire.[1] Nathaniel Lord Britton und Joseph Nelson Rose stellten die Art 1922 in die Gattung Thelocactus.[2] Ein nomenklatorisches Synonym ist Echinofossulocactus hexaedrophorus (Lem.) Lawr. (1841).

Es una planta perenne con tallo carnoso y esférico, presionado que tiene un tamaño de 3-7,5 centímetros de altura con un diámetro de 8 - 15 cm y un color azulado, verde oliva o el color verde-gris. Las 8 a 13 costillas están completamente disueltas en las verrugas. Las verrugas son más o menos hexagonales de 8 a 20 milímetros de largo y de 13 a 26 milímetros de tamaño. Las areolas son de 4 a 13 milímetros de largo y se encuentra de 2 a 3,5 centímetros de distancia. Las 4 a 8 espinas radiales son de 5 a 60 milímetros de largo, de color blanco puro, ocre, rojizo a marrón, rectas o curvas, como aguja formalmente subulada. La espina central es de 2 a 3 centímetros de largo, es fuerte y erecta. Las flores son grandes, de 5 a 10 centímetros de largo y ancho. El color de la flor varía del color rosa a la blanco. Los frutos son de color verde a magenta y miden 7 a 11 milímetros de tamaño.
Thelocactus hexaedrophorus fue descrita por Lem.) Britton & Rose y publicado en Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club 49(8): 251. 1922.[2]
Thelocactus: nombre genérico que deriva de las palabras griegas: thele que significa "pezón" y el sufijo "cactus" - haciendo referencia a los tubérculos de la planta.[3]
