Lithops julii (Dinter & Schwant.) N. E. Br.

Lithops julii is a species of succulent plant of the genus Lithops under the family Aizoaceae. It is native to Southern Africa,^[1] and was first collected by Professor Kurt Dinter, a German botanist, and named after his friend, Dr. Julius Derenberg.^[2]

Description

Lithops julii has a leaf structure composed of pairs of leaves, out of the center of which flowers and new leaves grow. Leaves are usually a pale grey, with a grid of linear depressions. The colors of the depression vary from plant to plant, but can be tinges of red, brown, green, blue, pink, or beige. Flowers sprout from between the two leaves, and are white in color.

Descripción

Forma grupos de dos hojas acopladas, divididas por una fisura por donde aparecen las flores. Cada par de hojas forman el cuerpo de la planta que tiene forma cilíndrica o cónica con una superficie plana. De la fisura entre las hojas brota, en periodo vegetativo, las nuevas hojas y en cuanto se abren, las antiguas se agostan.

Lithops julii fue descrita por (Dinter & Schwantes) N.E.Br., y publicado en Gard. Chron. III, 79: 102 1926.^[1]​

Etimología

Lithops: nombre genérico que deriva de las palabras griegas: "lithos" (piedra) y "ops" (forma).
