Mecopus tipularis is a true weevil species (Curculionidae: Conoderinae: Zygopini) native to Australia.The male grows to a body length of approx 8mm, female approx 7.3mm.Males have a pair of large spineson the underneath of the pronotum (called pectoral spines) and possesses hairless, smooth fore tarsi; both sexes possess spines on the inner margin of the hind tibiae.Males of this genus have long legs, giving it the common name “spider-legged” weevils.Adults are found on dead or dying trees, and can be a pest on timber (Walker 2006).
