Septorine gregarines, one host, trophozoites solitary; development intracellular or extracellular; epimerite simple or complex; gametocysts with or without sporoducts; distinguished from Porosporidae by the one host life cycle in which sporogony is completed in the gametocyst; Stenophoricae characteristically do not form associations prior to the onset of gametocyst formation distinguishing them from Gregarinicae, members of which characteristically form associations before maturity and long before the onset of syzygy.
