From Metzeltin et al. 2009: Cells solitary, not aggregated in chains. Frustules isovalvate, biraphid. Girdle views could never be observed due to its very narrow dimension in contrast to the broad and strongly domed valves. Valve outlines rather broadly elliptical with broadly rounded, not protracted ends. Length 9-24 μm, breadth 5.8-8.2 μm. Raphe branches appear somewhat diffuse lying in a linear to narrow-lanceolate axial area without separated cnetral area. Central pores on the valve outside (focus) conspicuously widely spaced. Below the surface, slightly displaced distally from the central raphe ends are visible lying in accumulations of silicate which appear bright in LM. Transapical striae are very coarse, in relation to the small cell dimensions, 10-11 in 10 μm. Areolae are not discernible.
Only found in two Chinese mountain lakes, Lake Wuhua and Lake Huohua (Metzeltin et al. 2009).
Sichuania lacustris is a biraphid diatom with a frustule morphology unique among freshwater taxa.
