Culm solid, about 1 cm in diameter, tall reed, up to 2 m tall. Blade about 12 mm wide; ligule tongue-shaped, about 4 mm long, ciliate. Inflorescence an oblong panicle, up to 20 cm long. Spikelets paired, monomorphic, the upper pedicellate; the lower sessile, about 2.5 mm long: Lower glume coriaceous; as long as the spikelet, broadly lanceolate, truncate at the apex, upper margins folded, ciliate, sericeous on the back; upper glume deltoid-lanceolate, coriaceous, margins membranous and folded, fimbriate, as long as the lower; lower floret reduced to merely a lemma, membranous, fimbriate on upper margin and the apex, about 1.8 mm long. Upper floret membranous; lemma oblong, somewhat truncate, fimbriate, upper margins fimbriate, 1-nerved from basal part, concave at the middle or lower; palea deltoid-lanceolate, fimbriate, about 0.7 mm long.
