Astragalus barnebyi S.L. Welsh & N.D. AtwoodApril 22, 2006, Garfield County, Utah Named in 1975 in honor of legume expert Rupert C. Barneby, but somewhat ironically, Barneby continued to treat it as Astragalus desperatus M.E. Jones var. conspectus Barneby (i.e. as a variety that he named in 1948).Growing in the sand with it appears to be a species of Escobaria (syn. Coryphantha), probably Escobaria vivipara.
