Distribucion en Costa Rica: Endémica. Se encuentra en la Cordillera Volcánica Central, cerros de Escazú, cerros del Tablazo y Cordillera de Talamanca y sus estribaciones. Elevaciones comprendidas entre 2000 y 2700 m.

Hierba rastrera, con los tallos esparcidamente hirsutos. Hojas alternas, de 0.5 a 4 cm en diámetro, epeltadas levemente, de sexta a enea lobuladas. Lóbulos redondeados, serrados marginalmente. Pecíolos de 1 a 10 cm, no envainadores. Estípulas pequeñas e inconspicuas. Inflorescencias umbelas simples. Pedúnculo usualmente más corto que las hojas. Flores sésiles. Dientes del cáliz inconspicuos o ausentes. Pétalos de morados a rojizos, con el ápice no inflexo. Carpóforo ausente. Frutos glabros, aplanados lateralmente, diminutos e inconspicuos. Se reconoce de Hydrocotyle bowlesioides por sus frutos glabros, hojas de sexta a enealobuladas con los lóbulos serrados. Esta especie, como muchas otras del mismo género, es raramente ecolectada, ya que a pesar de que las poblaciones en estado natural son comunes, su diminuto tamaño la hace pasar desapercibida.

Hydrocotyle torresiana Rose & Standley, Jour. Wash. Acad 17: 196. 1927.
Stems slender, creeping, sparingly hirsute; leaves not peltate, roundish-reniform with a sinus at the base, excluding the petioles 4-20 mm. long, 5-25 mm. broad, shallowly 7-8-lobed, the lobes rounded, serrate, the apical lobule slightly elongate, hirsute especially on the nerves and veins; petioles slender, 0.5-7 cm. long, reflexed-hirsute especially above; peduncles shorter than or about equaling the leaves, axillary, slender, 5-35 mm. long, subglabrous to densely hirsute with refiexed or spreading hairs; umbels not proliferous, many-flowered, globose; styles persistent, the stylopodium depressed; fruit sessile, ellipsoid in general outline, about 1 mm. long, 1-1.5 mm. broad, glabrous, the dorsal ribs evident, acute, the lateral somewhat obscure.
Type locality: Wet potrero on the southern slope of Volcan de Turrialba, near the Finca del Volcan de Turrialba, Costa Rica, alt. about 2400 meters, Standley 34950.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality (Standley 35,105, 35,232).
