Cadulus sp.

provided by EOL authors
Cadulus are single shelled Scaphopods within the phylum Mollusca. To date there are 128 described species within the genus (Scarabino & Gofas, 2008). First described by Philippi, R. A. in 1844, Cadulus contain a smooth translucent shell that has a gentle curve that resembles an elephant tusk. The shell is typically widest near the middle, or between the oral opening and the middle. A worm-like foot can be found on the organism inside the shell, although it typically contains no filament(Kluijver, Ingalsuo, & Bruyne). The particular Cadulus species pictured was collected off the Coronado bank off the coast of San Diego, CA.
