Mascagnia jamaicensis Urban & Niedzu.; Niedzu
Gen. Masc. 25. 1908. Branches pale, smooth ; leaf-blades ovate-lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate or nearly oblong, 7-14 cm. long, acute or slightly acuminate at the apex, glabrous, slightly paler beneath than above, abruptly narrowed or rounded at the base, short-petioled, the petiolar glands, usually present and conspicuous, borne near the base of the blade ; sepals ovate to suborbicular, 3^1 mm. long, the glands less than one half the length of the sepal-body; petals yellow, 7.5-11 mm. long, four of them nearly similar, with undulate blades which are slightly auricled at the base, the fifth petal very different from the others, severallobed, the lobes several times forked into very slender segments; samaras 2.5-3.5 cm. wide, the lateral wings broadly cuneate, glabrous or sparingly pubescent, thin.
