uropappus lindleyi has a bioregional distribution that includes California: north to Washington; east to Idaho, Utah and west Texas; and south to northern Mexico. Elevations of occurrence are less than 1800 meters. This common annual is found in open grassland, woodlands, chaparral, deserts and generally in loose soils.

This scapose species, commonly known as Lindley's silverpuffs, can achieve a height ranging from five to 70 centimeters; this wildflower has milky sap. The basal leaves are five to 30 centimeters long and exhibit a long tapered to narrowly lobed form with soft-hairy features (especially the petiole base) The inflorescence is ligulate solitary, with an involucre measuring ten to forty millimeters.
