Comprehensive Description

Stigmaphyllon ciliatum (I_am.) A. Juss. in A. St. Hil. Fl Bras. Merid. 3 : 49. 1833.
Banisteria ciliata Lam. Encyc. 1 : 369. 1783.
Leaf-blades ovate to orbicular-ovate, 4-8 cm. long, acuminate, repand and glandularciliate, glabrous or nearly so, bright-green above, pale beneath, deeply cordate at the base, long-petioled ; peduncles and pedicels sparingly pubescent, or glabrous in age ; sepals ovate to orbicular-ovate, 4-5 mm. long, the glands over one half the length of the sepalbody ; larger petals 20-25 mm. long ; samaras about 2.5 cm. long, very broad.
Type locality : Brazil.
Distribution : St. Thomas ; also in northern South America.
