Speckled Damsel

Description: Head and body brown with tinge of red, scales spots blue forming rows, caudal fin white, dorsal fin posterior ocellus black, Body depth 1.9-2.0 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).

Adults occur solitarily or in small groups in lagoons, reef flats, passages, and outer reef slopes. Usually amongst coarse rubble or rock (Ref. 48636, 119540).  Feed primarily on pelagic materials, such as copepods, isopods, and pelagic tunicates and opportunistically algae (Ref. 119541). Diurnal species (Ref. 52881).

分布於印度-太平洋區，由東印度洋的聖誕島到斐濟、東加，北至日本南部，南至羅雷淺灘、史考特礁 (東印度洋) 及新加勒多尼亞。台灣發現於北部、東北部、南部、東部、小琉球及綠島等地。

本身體色豔麗，是受歡迎之水族觀賞魚。

體呈橢圓形而側扁，標準體長為體高之2.0-2.1倍。吻短而鈍圓。口中型；頜齒兩列，小而呈圓錐狀。眶下骨裸出，下緣具強鋸齒；前鰓蓋骨後緣具鋸齒。體被櫛鱗；鼻部具鱗；側線之有孔鱗片17-19個。背鰭單一，軟條部不延長而略呈角形，硬棘XIII，軟條15-16；臀鰭硬棘II，軟條15-16；胸鰭鰭條18；尾鰭叉形，上下葉末端呈圓狀。體呈黃褐色至褐色，胸、腹面有時偏黃；眶間骨與前額通常為橘紅至淡紅色，甚至延伸至背鰭；頭背頭另有一些藍紋，亦常延伸至背鰭。鰓蓋上緣有一小黑斑，胸鰭基部上方另具一小黑點。尾柄及尾鰭白色。無論任何時期，背鰭末端皆具眼狀斑。

主要棲息於潟湖、礁石平臺、水道與外礁斜坡區。通常活動於粗糙的碎石或岩石中。生存單獨或形成小群魚群。主要吃藻類， 也捕食橈腳類、等足目與大洋性被囊類等浮游動物。

Pomacentrus bankanensis, commonly known as the speckled damsel, is a species of damselfish found in the western Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 9 cm in length.
