Warnstorfia fluitans (deutsch Flutendes Moorsichelmoos) ist eine Laubmoos-Art aus der Familie Calliergonaceae.
Die mäßig kräftigen Pflanzen mit bis zu 30 Zentimeter langen aufsteigenden oder im Wasser flutenden, unregelmäßig verzweigten Stämmchen bilden lockere, grüne bis gelbgrüne oder bräunliche Rasen. Die Blätter sind oval lanzettlich bis schmal lanzettlich, allmählich in eine lange Spitze verschmälert, gerade bis sichelförmig, nicht faltig. Die Blattränder sind fein gezähnelt, die bis 60 Mikrometer breite, einfache Rippe reicht gewöhnlich bis wenig über die Blattmitte. Die Blattzellen sind in der Blattmitte linealisch, 10 bis 20 mal so lang wie breit, am Blattgrund kürzer. Blattflügelzellen sind etwas aufgeblasen, rundlich bis schwach verlängert und gehen nach oben allmählich in rundlich-quadratische und rechteckige Zellen über.
Die Art ist autözisch (Antheridien und Archegonien an verschiedenen Ästen an derselben Pflanze). Sporenkapseln sind meist selten. Die Seta ist bis 10 Zentimeter lang und geschlängelt, die gekrümmte, eilängliche Kapsel geneigt bis waagrecht, der kegelige Deckel ist stumpf gespitzt. Die fein papillösen Sporen haben eine Größe von 20 bis 28 Mikrometer.
Warnstorfia fluitans ist eine sehr variable Art. Es ist nicht geklärt, ob es sich nur um Standortsmodifikationen handelt. Eine Form mit stark sichelförmigen Blättern und gesägten Rändern wird als var. falcata unterschieden.
Bedingt durch die in der Vergangenheit mehrmals geänderte systematische Zuordnung gibt es eine Anzahl von Synonymen, häufigstes davon ist Drepanocladus fluitans (Hedw.) Warnst.
Warnstorfia fluitans wächst an nassen, mäßig bis stark sauren, oligo- bis mesotrophen Standorten in Hoch-, Zwischen- oder Niedermooren, sauren Quellmooren oder in Verlandungszonen oligotropher, stehender Gewässer.
In Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz ist sie zerstreut bis mäßig häufig und kommt von der Ebene bis in Höhen um die Waldgrenze vor. Darüber hinaus ist die Art weltweit fast kosmopolitisch verbreitet.

Warnstorfia fluitans is a medium-sized moss ranging in color from green to yellowish to brownish and can be rarely red when the species occurs in exposed habitats. The cells of its stem epidermis are not widened, and its pseudoparaphyllia are ovate-triangular to lanceolate in shape. It has axillary hairs with a distal portion of one to four cells, the hairs being hyaline when young. Its stem leaves are narrowly ovate to triangularly ovate, with denticulate margins. Their apices are acuminate, and the costa range from 50 to 80% of the leaf length. Its alar regions are narrowly transversely triangular and roughly reach the costa. The moss is sexually autoicous.[1]
Warnstorfia fluitans is distinguished from Warnstorfia pseudostraminea, the other autoicous species in its genus, by its more broadly triangular alar groups and more straight to slightly falcate stem leaves with hooked apices. However, these morphological features are inconsistent in W. pseudostraminea, and rarely certain occurrences of W. fluitans have the same characteristics.[2]
Warnstorfia fluitans is excellent at phytofiltration of arsenic from water.[3]
Warnstorfia fluitans commonly occurs in minerally poor or acidic habitats, though it can occasionally occur in nutrient rich areas. It is often found in fens, bogs, depressions in rocks, on moist rocky surfaces, and other similar watery areas ranging in elevation from 0–3,500 m (0–11,483 ft).[1] It can grow among Sphagnum cuspidatum.
The moss can be found throughout Canada and the northern United States, variously in South America, Australia, and Eurasia, in southern and eastern Africa, and on islands in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans.[1]
Warnstorfia fluitans is known to be able to use artificial light to grow in places which are otherwise devoid of natural light, such as Crystal Cave in Wisconsin.[4]
In a study of the effect of the herbicide Asulam on moss growth, Warnstorfia fluitans was shown to be tolerant to Asulam exposure.[5]
