Endemic to Mauna Loa on the Big Island, Hawaii. This shrub is around 2.5 ft. tall. Elevation around 7080 ft. NE aspect. Associated species include: Pukiawe (Styphelia tameiameiae), Aalii (Dodonaea viscosa), Ohia (Metrosideros polymorpha), Pilo (Coprosma montana), Naenae (Dubautia ciliolata), Kukaenene (Coprosma ernodeoides). Mostly shrubs and few small trees on Pahoehoe lava rock.
