Offshore of Sitka. Large number somewhere between the surface to 30 fathoms (most likely the 20 fathom zone). Caught while fishing by Moses Johnson (hole in one is due to hook). Have been observed while fishing for the last 2 weeks. Approximately 1.75" long .5" wide. Pinkish color near center when first caught. Bioluminescent: after disturbing them in a dark room a faint greenish light was observed.

Sample caught on Feb. 9 while commercial trolling: winter troll area Sitka, Ak. Increased numbers encountered since last sample, some 5"+ L. Sample brought back to Sitka for ID. Approximate water surface temp 44 degrees F. Indentations caused by troll wire. Another fisherman reported there are large numbers in the Whale Bay area as well.

Reported to be relatively scarce on 2/14/2017 but on 2/15 thicker than ever and larger. Estimated to be congregated between the surface and down to 40+ fathoms depending on location. Caught on commercial troll gear, density made it almost unfishable.

200+ Pyrosomes were observed from the surface down while out longlining. I grabbed this one as it floated by. Various sizes were observed, some quite a bit larger than this one which was approximately 5" long. I have been told they move up the water column at night which explains why so many were visible.
